CUPCAKES

I get to do a lot of research at my internship, on things I like. Of course I also help out with day-to-day magazine tasks, like checking the magazine email and sending out free copies, but mostly (since its only my second week) I'm still trying to learn what types of stories work best for this magazine. My fellow interns are actually really helpful when it comes to this as they've been here longer and know what the EIC and EAL are looking for.

Anyway, along the way of my research I saw a side bar about cupcakes in NYC. And of course I clicked it, I mean who wouldn't click CUPCAKES!! And since the sidebar was on Twitter (where I was following Industry gossip) I was then led to blogs and other Twitter feeds about even more cupcakes in NYC.

Living here I've only always thought of Magnolia's and Crumbs (although I am partial to Magnolia's) as THE cupcake places to eat. There's also a really great place in Brooklyn on 93rd and 3rd in Bay Ridge, called The Little Cupcake Bakeshop. This area is super nice as well if you want to hang out with friends but just don't have the budget to do it in Manhattan. One subway ride on the R, N, or W (the Yellow Line) will get you into Brooklyn in the blink of an eye! There are a bunch of bars and outdoor restaurants which make bar hopping in the summer super fun, but more on bar hopping tomorrow, as tomorrow is TGIF!!

Cupcakes in Manhattan however range from the tiny, quarter sized ones at Baked by Melissa to the Monmouth ones at Crumbs. Baked by Melissa's creations are actually the size of a quarter and come in some pretty interesting flavors!

If you are trying to be good, or are more in the mood for something a little healthier, Babycakes on Delancey is the place for you! This bakery also caters to those on gluten free diets, or those who have particular allergies. These cupcakes are also, as verified by the nutritional information on their website, HEALTHY!!

The Cupcake Stop is a fairly new addition to the delicious world of cupcakes in New York and can be found driving around various spots in NYC. If you visit their website you can also see their Twitter feed, and follow them if you'd like. This truck seems like it's going to be able to hold it's own against the NYC Treats Truck.

Another great resource for cupcake lovers in NYC is Cupcakes Take the Cake. This blog features links to their favorites as well as some reviews/ratings on many of the cupcake bakeries in the area.

So on this rainy day, my fellow Edsters, Interns and Editors alike, go get a cupcake. It's Thursday, you've definitely worked hard enough to deserve at least one!!

A Domani!! (Till Tomorrow)

P.S. As you can tell from my sign off's I love everything Italian, and having studied abroad for 6 months, I can't seem to shake the language, so I'm gonna try to bring a little bit of Italy into each of these blogs and before long you'll miss the land of Fendi, Gucci, Prada and Mozzerella, as well!
