What Eva Chen's Promotion Means, and What You Can Learn From It

Everyone at Teen Mag was so excited when Eva Chen got promoted to Editor In Chief of Lucky Magazine this week. I've always looked up to Eva, and followed (okay, stalked) her social media sites for insight as to what it's really like to be a magazine editor. She's a celebrity in her own right, and I can't wait to see what's in store for her and for Lucky

It's so rare to be promoted to Editor In Chief (it's not like Anna Wintour's going anywhere...), and I think the fact that Eva earned the title says something about her exemplary career and the direction the magazine industry is going. Here are 3 lessons interns can learn from Eva:
1) Social media is a BIG deal. One of the reasons that Chen got promoted, at least in my mind, is her incredible social media presence. She has more than 47,000 Twitter followers, 45,000 Instagram followers, and a Tumblr page in which she answers follower questions about the magazine industry. As a web intern, it's becoming very clear to me that Chen is adept at developing social media because she's developed her personality in each of her platforms and blog. So, especially if you're aiming for a web career, social media matters! Showing that you know what makes a funny tweet or an interesting Instagram post on your own social media pages shows you'd be great at developing Mag.com's social media presence. (Makes you rethink Instagramming those flaming shots you took last night, right?)

2) Personality matters. Chen has participated in tons of panels and meet-and-greets, and frequently invites followers with interesting questions on informational interviews. While I can bet the informational interviews invites are not going to happen as often, you never know who you're going to meet at industry panels and events! Go to all of the Ed events you can, stay after work at your mag, and don't be afraid to talk to people—because you never know who they'll become!

3) Don't be afraid to change perspective. Chen's moved around a lot–she's held various positions at Elle and Teen Vogue, which only shows her versatility. Women's Wear Daily cites that one of the reasons she was chosen is because Condé Nast wants to take Lucky in a new, digital direction, and her print and digital expertise will help! What can we interns with little professional experience learn? Don't be afraid to help an editor in another department. Try to see a task you're working on from a different angle. Understanding editorial problems from a different point of view only makes you a better future editor!

What do you think about Eva Chen's promotion, Edsters? What have you learned from her career? Let me know in the comments section!

  3. This is certainly possible to Buy twitter followersthrough the use of different means like social hub, social panel , boat and so one. Most of the ways provide twitter follows almost in the same way. The social hubs are popular in this contest which can no doubt provide completely real twitter follows as the likes come manually from the real users although the service of different social hubs are not faster than social media panel.
